There will be at least two private gardens open to members of the public this weekend as part of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS).
As well as being able to beauty of the gardens, and appreciate the labours of the busy gardeners, you’ll also be doing your bit for charity, as entry proceeds from garden admissions go to selected charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Parkinson’s UK and the Carers Trust.
Blue Haze, Bembridge (venue details)
A passion for plants, art and the coast inspired the creation of this small coastal garden which wraps around Blue Haze. Native coastal plants thrive alongside more cultivated species whilst sculptures made from objects washed ashore augment the theme. Fruit, vegetables and a small nursery are integrated into the garden making it productive as well as attractive
White Cottages, Bembridge (venue details)
A dry gravel garden. Mainly used to grow and breed day lilies (Hemerocallis) and these are in full bloom end June and beginning July. The garden is predominantly herbaceous mixed with grasses and thus the garden changes dramatically over the year. Spring flowers provide interest before the day lilies and grasses and late perennials after.
The NGS has donated £34million from garden openings over the past 12 years and is Macmillan’s biggest ever donor.
