In collaboration with Quay Arts in Newport, tonight (Friday) ses the launch of a showcase exhibition by Isle of Wight Open Studios, highlighting the impressive range of work by local artists.
The exhibition, curated and installed by Quay Arts, will be held in the Cafe and Clayden Gallery.
It will kick off with a launch event from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, 12th July. This event will introduce the new IW Open Studios Community Interest Company and their dedicated team of volunteers from all five areas of the Island.
The exhibition will remain open daily from 9am to 5pm until Sunday, 4th August. Admission is free.
Raising awareness and celebrating diversity
The aim of this exhibition is to raise public awareness of IW Open Studios, offering visitors a preview of the diverse range of work from some of the 120+ participating artists.
The exhibition will provide an excellent opportunity for visitors to see what will be showcased during the Island-wide event, anticipated to be the year’s most exciting celebration of art on the Isle of Wight. Artworks on display will also be available for purchase.
A word from the Director
Caroline Underwood, one of the three Directors of Isle of Wight Open Studios and an artist herself, shared her thoughts on the event.
She said,
“I think that having one Island-wide coordinated event is an important element of the local cultural offer.
“The Isle of Wight Open Studios event has such valuable potential to help make the creative community here visible and provides a meaningful way for artists to connect with local residents and tourists alike.
“The showcase exhibition at Quay Arts brings together many Isle of Wight artists’ work in one place, representing the diversity of talent involved and offering visitors a taster of the kinds of artworks they can look forward to discovering when they explore Open Studios later this summer.”
The main event
The main Isle of Wight Open Studios event takes place between 23rd August to Sunday 8th September 2024, when 100s of artists will be opening their studios to the public.
