Residents in Ventnor who subscribe to the Orange EE network have been without mobile reception for three weeks.
Orange customers started getting in touch with OnTheWight a couple of weeks ago, complaining they’d had no service since 14th November (we’d experienced the same too).
They were not getting much sense from customer services, so hoped we’d be able to get something more informative from the EE press team.
Not much help from press team
Alas, once again, they have proved as reliable as the mobile service, ie not. Readers will remember the same problem occurred back in late 2012.
After a number of back and forths they issued another ‘holding’ message, which everyone knew already.
“We are investigating reports that some customers in the Ventnor area are experiencing problems with coverage, and apologise for any inconvenience.”
Finally some sense
Two weeks after first asking for information we finally got a straight answer, but only after being forced to contact someone we knew, high up in the organisation.
We were told that water damage to the mast dish was the nub of the problem. A new part had been ordered from the supplier and the lack of repair has been caused by the delays experienced in waiting for the replacement part to arrive.
So now we know what has caused the problem, but when customers can expect a return of service is still unclear. Readers have told us that Orange/EE are at risk of losing a lot of customers and goodwill in Ventnor unless they can fix this problem swiftly and refund customers for at least three week of lack of service.
