A high ropes course, climbing wall and bungee trampolines are all among major plans for an Isle of Wight holiday park, looking to upgrade its facilities.
Parkdean Resort’s Lower Hyde Holiday Park, in Shanklin, is hoping to meet the future needs of visitors by providing more exciting activities for its guests and improving current facilities.
In plans submitted to the Isle of Wight council, the national holiday resort company would like to add new attractions including:
- A ‘King Kong’ climbing wall;
- Adventure and junior play equipment;
- Bungee trampolines;
- Kart and bike hire facilities;
- A high ropes course and zip wire;
- Adventure golf course;
- ‘Shades of Comfort’ hospitality enclosure;
- Multi-use games area (MUGA);
- Arts ‘n’ crafts den;
- Activity tent;
- Food and drink serving containers including a bar, a pizza bar and a ‘fish and chippery’;
- Outside covered seating;
- and refurbish the outdoor entertainment stage
Other changes
Works are also proposed the the existing entertainment complex and could see the swimming pool, showbar, kitchen and shop extended with a raised seating area added.
The former housekeeping building could also be repurposed to provide an ice-cream and coffee outlet, office, briefing room and storage spaces.
Overall, planning documents say, the proposals are seeking to enhance entertainment, activity and leisure facilities for all holiday park guests, while looking to meet the demand for high-quality holiday accommodation.
Anticipated boost for tourism
It is hoped the improvement will encourage more guests to the holiday park, and in turn more visitors to the Island.
Twenty-one single storey holiday chalets could also be demolished in the plans, making way for the bases of eight new, and improved, static caravans to improve accommodation types.
Permission had previously been granted two years ago for outdoor upgrades at the park but had not been started yet.
