If you’ve been in Newport today, you might have seen more walkers than usual.
That would be because emergency services, schools and the college have been joining Phil Packer MBE on a fund and awareness raising walk.
Phil received horrendous spinal injuries in 2008 whilst serving in the Royal Military Police. Despite being told he’d never walk again, the following year he ran the London Marathon.
Founded the British Inspiration Trust
A year later, in 2010, Phil set up the British Inspiration Trust (BRIT), it’s an organisation that aims to “deliver inspiration to young people facing adversity (who are physically or mentally disabled, deprived, have medical conditions, are injured or wounded)”.
To raise awareness of BRIT, Phil’s walking a staggering 2012 miles throughout this year, enlisting the help of schools, colleges and universities along the way.
Day nine, Isle of Wight
Phil’s on day nine of his journey across the UK and Northern Ireland. He started the day by walking to Isle of Wight College with four schools, the High Sheriff, members of the Fire Service, Police and RNLI.
A little later he tweeted, “At Carisbrooke Castle with young people & emergency services on Day 9 of my 2012 mile journey.”
If you haven’t heard of the BRIT 2012 Challenge, check out the official Website for more info.
If you see Phil on his journey, give him a friendly wave or supportive hoot of the car horn.
