The Phoenix Choir were in the newly refurbished Newport Minster on Saturday 13th July singing in aid of the Minster’s new community project to help those living with dementia and their helpers.
The venue felt fresh and welcoming and an enthusiastic audience of around 200 appreciated the wide variety of music in the programme which included some songs from the musicals Phantom of the Opera, Cats and The Lion King and film tunes from Gladiator and Titanic amongst others.
Improved acoustics
The acoustics in the venue have much improved since the renovation, and the removal of pews enhanced the overall layout which feels more like a concert venue than a church.
With the addition of a cafe, the Minster were able to supply refreshments during the interval. The enjoyable evening raised the wonderful total of £1,229 for the Minster’s project.
Future concerts
The Choir’s next performance is on Saturday 5th October at Holy Trinity Church in Bembridge in aid of their appeal to help restore the stonework of the church tower, and on Thursday 28th November the Phoenix will be singing with Russell Watson at All Saints Church Ryde.
