The highlight of ours, last week, was catching up with the amazing Asa Singleton.
I’m sure you will remember Asa from previous posts and the extensive media coverage over the years. A couple of weeks ago he picked up the IW Radio Courageous Child Award for his bravery over the years, as well as the People’s People Award, both to standing ovations. Coming up later today, will be the first of three podcasts with Asa.
More awards, as news hit us last week that Ventnor sausage maker, Paul Murphy also picked up awards for the best alternative sausage and best newcomer at the Sweetcorn Festival. Well done Paul.
On Wednesday it was revealed by Radio Solent that Ventnor is the new ‘Centre of the Universe’. They put a call out for Ventnorians to phone in with details of the famous sons and daughters of Ventnor. It was really interesting to hear taxi driver, Rob, call in to say that when his parents owned The Beach Hotel, they found paperwork showing that the Russian Royal family had stayed at the hotel.
There were lots of family events happening over the weekend, we were busy entertaining visitors, so didn’t get a chance to go along to The Big Draw or The Big Day Out. If you did and fancy sending us a post, get in touch via email on ventnorblog(at)gmail(dot)com.
There’ll be lots more events being added to the diary this week, so make sure you check back to find out what’s going on around the Island this week.
