Plans for empty cafe building to be transformed into adult amusement arcade

Last updated:

An adult amusement arcade could be coming to an Isle of Wight town centre, in an empty building formerly home to a cafe.

Gambling and betting business Coopers Amusements Limited has submitted a change of use application to County Hall to convert 93 High Street on Newport High Street into an adult gaming centre (AGC).

The building used to house Cafe Ninety Three which closed in 2022.

Opening times are stereotypical
A Planning Statement written by Brown & Co JH Walter on behalf of Coopers Amusements said,

“The application proposes that the AGC will be open from 10am—10pm Monday—Sunday. Opening times are stereotypical for premises such as this, and the proposal would support both the daytime and evening economy, adding economic viability and vitality to the area.

“AGCs are similar in nature to retail premises and do not generate any more noise than a stereotypical retail store.

“The development would not generate significant levels of traffic or generate significant parking demand.

“The proposal will employ two full-time jobs and one part-time which is considered to be a positive material and economic consideration in favour of the use.”
