Plans to convert a former bar in Shanklin into two residential units is open to public consultation.
Located in the shadow of Shanklin Theatre, No. 64 on the High Street has had many guises over the two decades, but according to application, the business has exhibited significant losses since 2017.
No market for the bar
Agent Phil Salmon says the bar has not opened consistently in the past two years as a consequence of Covid lockdown measures and a declining clientele.
He claims there is a “strong indication that there is no market for the bar in the near and long term future”.
Permission granted for other floors
The first and second floors of the property have already been granted planning permission for change of use to three flats (two on the second floor and one on the first floor).
The latest plans request change of use of the a ground floor bar unit to two flats.
