Ryde Town Council has agreed to work in partnership with Isle of Wight Council on sustaining and improving play preas across the town.
A number of local play areas in the Ryde area will have equipment refurbished and replaced, including the play area within Simeon Street recreation ground.
Play areas include Binstead recreation ground and Rest Garden, Appley, Oakwood Road, Esplanade, and Haylands play areas.
Providing creative play options
The town council is investing £13,000 over the next year to support the refurbishment and replacement of play equipment in areas currently managed by Isle of Wight Council. The partnership will look to provide creative play options for children and young people.
Councillor Paul Fuller, Executive Member with responsibility for parks and open spaces, said:
“Play areas and public realm are top priorities for our residents, children and visitors to the Island, so where we can, we are entering into arrangements, such as this one with Ryde town council, that mean we can protect the long term future for these vital services. I am very grateful to the town council for also seeing the benefit to Ryde and working in partnership with the local authority.”
Cllr Roi Milburn, Mayor of Ryde, said:
“Our residents regularly tell us just how important our public realm is in Ryde, and as a town, it is very important that with all the other improvements that have been made, that our children and families also directly benefit. The town council are delighted to work in partnership with the local authority on sustaining play spaces in the town and it was a joy to witness so many children enjoying Simeon Street play area just last week.”
