Police appeal after woman assaulted on footpath in Sandown

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a young woman was assaulted by a group of youths last Friday evening. (August 30).

police-blue-lamp-jd-mack-cropped-223The incident occurred near to the entrance of Battery Gardens sometime between 9.30pm and 10.30pm as the 22-year-old woman was walking home along the footpath at Fern Cliff in Sandown.

She was approached by a number of youngsters who assaulted her and stole items from her handbag including £15 in cash, a bottle of Rose Echo Falls wine, some tobacco, Ted Baker perfume and make up.

The woman received some minor injuries including cuts and grazes in the incident, but declined any medical attention.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Russell of Newport DCID said,

“Incidents of this type are extremely rare on the Isle of Wight, but residents are urged to consider their personal safety when walking around at night and where possible stay to main routes and be with other people.”
