A report of a theft in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight where a knife was seen is prompting a police appeal for information.
A 24-year-old man from St. Helens, Isle of Wight was sitting on a bench at the corner of Cross Street and North Road outside Shanklin Conservative Club between 5.45pm and 6pm on Friday, June 24, 2011. During this time, he was approached by three men who were walking past.
Knife revealed but not used
The victim has told police that one of them stole a distinctive orange cap, which he was wearing at the time. When the 24-year-old challenged the group, one of the men showed him a small knife before walking away.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “Thankfully the victim was not threatened, assaulted or injured, but was clearly shaken by what happened. Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhoods team have carried out enquiries in the area already this week and we’re grateful to people who have been able to give us extra useful information.
“We’ve had no other similar reports on the island recently but officers are appealing for more witnesses to help find these men who were described as white and aged in their late teens to early 20s.
“The stolen cap is described as a collector’s item. It’s luminous orange with the word ‘Marvel’ in black letters on the back.”
