CCTV images of man police want to contactPolice are releasing CCTV footage of a man who may have information about an allegation of malicious communication on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were contacted during July 2011 about a photograph, which had been posted anonymously to a woman’s home address on the Island.

The picture contained an image of the woman shopping in Newport town centre on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

Investigating officer PC Sandra Andrews of the Isle of Wight Public Protection Unit (PPU) said: “Police were contacted because of concerns about how and why this photograph was taken and posted. Officers have pursued several lines of enquiry including the examination of CCTV footage from Newport town centre on Tuesday, June 21.

“A man was seen on CCTV at around 10.49am on this day standing opposite Sports Direct in Cockrams Yard. He was carrying what appeared to be a camera. There could be a completely innocent explanation, but police are eager to trace this man so our investigation can move forward.

“We’re releasing a CCTV image of the man in an appeal for him to come forward. He may have information that is important to our enquiries. Anyone who thinks they recognise or know him is also asked to contact the police.”
