Further to earlier reports, the police share this latest appeal. Ed

Officers are investigating an assault in Ryde which left a 26 year-old man from Ventnor in hospital with a serious head injury.

Shortly before 00:30 on Tuesday, July 19, the victim and his girlfriend were approached by a group of men and women on Appley beach following an organised music event.

The victim then reported that he was assaulted by members of this group, and officers believe that objects including a pole and beer keg may have been used as weapons during this incident. The victim is now recovering at home from his injuries.

Investigating officer DC Victoria Hayward said:

“This is a very serious assault. If anyone recorded any footage of the assault on a mobile phone or saw what happened in the Appley beach area that evening, it could help to establish how many people were involved in this assault.”

Two 17 year-old boys arrested on suspicion of assault in relation to this incident have been bailed until October 17 pending further enquiries.
