Detectives are investigating a report of an assault on a man and a woman in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
Officers were called to St. Mary’s Road near the Painters Arms pub in the town at 7.35pm on Boxing Day (Monday, December 26, 2011).
Assaulted by another couple
It’s alleged a man and a woman, who had been walking together along the road, were approached and assaulted by another man and woman.
The victims were taken to hospital to be treated for injuries, which were believed to be serious, but not life threatening.
A 31-year-old man from Southampton and a 38-year-old woman from Cowes were arrested a short time later in Cowes on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent.
They were questioned at Newport police station and bailed until March 14, 2012 pending further enquiries.
Police officers who were called on the night would like to thank members of the public for their help at the scene.
