At the November full council meeting, during the members’ question time, Cllr Pitcher (UKIP) asked leader of the council, Cllr Stephens (Ind), whether an inquiry would be held into the activities of the Ecoisland company.
Cllr Stephens confirmed a police investigation into activities was already underway and the council would have to wait for the outcome of that investigation.
Council reported company to police
On 3rd October 2013, the Isle of Wight council announced they’d reported Eco Island to the police.
The council had asked police to investigate the disappearance of £115,000, that had been passed to Eco-Island to deliver the Government’s Green Deal on the Isle of Wight.
Later that day the company’s boss, David Green was arrested in connection with the matter.
Tragically, a few days later, Mr Green was found dead at his home on the Island.
Investigation continued after death
Mr Green’s death didn’t appear to have a bearing on the continuation of the investigation, as on 29th October, OnTheWight was sent an unsolicited statement from the police.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said:
“We can confirm an investigation by Isle of Wight CID is continuing into the Eco-Island company following information passed to police about missing public funds in October 2013.”
No update from Police
OnTheWight has since last week been seeking an update on the Police investigation. At the time of publishing, they’ve failed to provide the current status.
