Thanks to Jake for sending through this report of the PostFest event that took place at the weekend in Newport. In his own words. Ed
People from all over the Island gathered last Saturday (27th), to listen to popular and upcoming bands at the second annual PostFest – a music event organised by Robert Carr in order to promote local and upcoming bands, whilst raising money for the Isle of Wight Hospice.
This year’s event was a knockout success compared to last year; bringing in sales of 499 tickets, whilst also raising funds of over £110 through the sale of Hospice Sunflowers.
Two stages hosted 18 bands
Spread between two stages at different intervals throughout the day, the event saw host to 18 bands, varying from upcoming bands such as Red Rock, to well established bands such as The Scores.
To provide entertainment to the children, there were various activities taking place, such as hula hooping, face painting, a bouncy castle and a gladiator’s duel. For the adults, refreshing alcohol was available as well as hog roast and hot dog sausages.
Showers didn’t dampen enthusiasm
In an interview with the site owner Arthur Reeder (pictured above), he said, “Even the showers couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the people that descended on the small field on the Fairlee road to see the musical talent.
“A sell-out crowd of 499 revellers basked in the sunshine whilst drinking and eating hog roast, and listening to such bands as Dr Jones, The Scores, WeatherKings and a superb debut from a new group [called] Red Rock.”
