An pro-turbine member of the public is urging Islanders to support a new petition urging government support for on-shore and off-shore turbines for the Isle of Wight.
Created via the Prime Minister’s No.10 Website, the petition calls for “Prime Minister to push forward plans for wind turbines on, or offshore from, the Isle of Wight.”
At time of publishing this article there were 568 signatures on the petition which runs until 16th March 2010.
The petition goes on to say “This petition is to show how frustrated people are about the ignorance of people voting and campaigning against wind turbines on the Isle Of Wight because they are not aesthetically pleasing. We have to stop this ‘Not in my back yard’ mentality and show these people that it’s not just the view out of their back garden that is at stake if we don’t act. So by getting enough signatories to show there support I hope for direct Prime Ministerial support for wind turbines on, or offshore from, the Isle of Wight.”
