ISLE of Wight Council Trading Standards has issued an urgent product recall for a batch of potentially dangerous children’s lamps which were on sale in a shop in Freshwater.
Officers were alerted to the lamps by the trader when they began to melt. The shop owner initiated a recall of the lamps by placing a sign in his shop window and also contacting the council’s trading standards team.
Trading standards officers want to the public to be made aware of the potential dangers of these lamps as quickly as possible.
They are concerned that around 42 of the lamps have been sold and not yet returned. The lamp falls under toy legislation which is very strict.
The animal shapes make the lamp more appealing to children with the danger that they could be used in children’s bedrooms.
Anyone who has concerns about the lamps should return them to the shop it was bought from and should also discuss any refunds with the shop.
Problems with the product include:
Pulls apart easily
Small parts which present a choking hazard
Incorrect fuse
Incorrect voltage (no transformer)
Easy access to live parts
Liable to melt.
