Earlier on in the series, we told you how to start writing a novel, how to stick with it and how to get it finished. We also got you started in how to write for film and TV.
In this last installment in the Barbara J Mackie writing series, we’ll be passing on final tips and telling you how to get published.
Making your creation public
Barbara is in the process of publishing her first novel, a comedy epic called Eat The View.
She’s uploading it onto Amazon for Kindle and iPhone apps, she says: “It’s a free process, anyone can upload once they have something to upload. That’s the online eBook world.”
On publishing, Barbara explains: “There are people who you can pay who will self-publish for you. You can just Google ‘self-publishing’. They’ll do marketing for you too.
“You can self-publish a real, physical book. There are different companies, you just have to look.
“There’s lots of ways in. Amazon is just the most well known way and you don’t have to pay anything. It’s a good way to test your book.”
Don’t forget
Read as much and as widely as you can, write as often as possible.
Barbara reminds us that it doesn’t matter who you are or how old you are, it’s never too late to start writing.
Barbara J Mackie will be holding her next writing workshop at the Blacksheep Bar in Ryde on 21, 22, 23 September.
