If you’re a lover of films but fancy something a bit different to the offerings of the large commercial cinemas, you might be interested in the new season of screenings being offered at Quay Arts Centre.
Screening at 8pm on the last Thursday of each month until the end of the year, the season kicks off tomorrow evening with the Francis Ford Coppola’s highly acclaimed film about rivalry and jealousy, Tetro.
It stars the fabulous Vincent Gallo (Buffalo 66, Palookaville) and Alden Ehrenreich, a rising star in Hollywood who was apparently discovered by Steven Spielberg at a friend’s bat mitzvah.
October’s screening
October’s offering is Woody Allen’s latest, Whatever Works.
Starring the hilarious Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) the film tells the story of grumpy old man Boris Yellnikoff (played by David) who meets a luscious runaway called Melody, an abandons his upper class existence to lead a more bohemian life.
November’s screening
November brings Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky. This beautifully shot drama, pays tribute to the life of Coco after Chanel, exploring the electric relationship between the French fashion icon and the radical Russian-born composer.
December’s screening
The season ends on 30th December with a wonderful animated version of an undeveloped Jack Tati script, The Illusionist.
Given it’s on during the Christmas hols, this is one you can bring your kids along to. This breathtaking film is set in Scotland in the 1950s and revolves around a struggling illusionist who meets a young lady who is convinced that he is a real magician.
The ticket price for screenings is just £4. The bar will be open from 6pm.
