The MySpace world is a small one, it’s possible to come across people from the Isle of Wight almost every time you log on.
This latest plug actually came from being at ICANDI last week though and chatting with one of the featured artists, Gareth Rowntree.
Island lads, he and Tom Symes have set up a new promotions company called Radio Soma with the intention of ‘providing quality nights for all the people on the Isle of Wight who appreciate a break from the mainstream options currently available.’
Sounds pretty good to me and their first foray into the world of promotions takes place next Thursday at Joe’s in Newport.
It will be an eclectic night of music, art, animation, photography and graphic design. Upstairs will 100% live and original electronica, played to an animated backdrop. Downstairs is a mashup of organic flavour music with graphic illustrations and photography displayed throughout the building.
All contributions are from hot and mostly undiscovered local talent with 9 d.js and 6 artists showing the best bits of their hard work.
And the DJs sounds pretty good too … Louis Soteriou, B3N XOR, Drut, My Friend Jared, Dan Hill, Sparrow, TS, Raff b2b and Jack Clutterbuck.
There will be artwork from Mike Forrest (we will get around to putting up the review of his piece in East Cowes very soon – honest) and Kendal Noctor. Animation projection by Jo Newell and guests.
It’s only £2 to get in, so why not give it a try?
