On Thursday morning (3 September) at 10am the Red Ensign was raised in Yarmouth to honour the brave men and women who protected the country during both World Wars.
Yarmouth’s Merchant Navy Day celebrations were attended by the great and the good of the isle of Wight. Lord Lieutenant Major General Martin White read a message from Edward, Earl of Wessex, Revd Mark Whatson, Rector of Yarmouth read an adaptation of the naval prayer.
Also in attendance were Harbour Master, Tim Adams and Yarmouth Mayor, Steve Cowley.
Many boats passed the end of pier, sounding their sirens to mark Merchant Navy Day.
Coffee was served afterwards in the Royal Solent Yacht Club.
