Reggie’s Retro to celebrate National Album Day with live local music in Ventnor

Ventnor’s independent record store, Reggie’s Retro, is gearing up for a special event to mark National Album Day on Saturday, 19th October. The day will feature live performances by up-and-coming musicians from the Isle of Wight, promising an exciting afternoon of music in honour of this year’s theme: Great British Groups.

Visitors to the shop will be treated to performances from local artists, including Ventnor duo Daysi and Luca, as well as Island singing sensation Ruby (pictured above), who will be performing with a special guest. Both sets will reflect the theme of celebrating British groups and the lasting impact they’ve had on music.

National Album Day: Celebrating vinyl
National Album Day, which first launched in 2018, is a nationwide celebration of the album format. Every year, the event shines a spotlight on albums and artists that have made significant contributions to music. This year, fans can look forward to special vinyl releases from iconic British groups such as All Saints, Simple Minds, The Slits and The Chemical Brothers.

Sharon Holloway, the owner of Reggie’s Retro, is thrilled to be part of this celebration. She is especially proud to support the next generation of British talent, highlighting the importance of local music. She said,

“The Isle of Wight is known the world over for the talent that features at the annual Festival.

“But every artist and every band has its own origins story. There is little doubt that the Island has exceptional emerging music talent. These are the next ones to watch!”

Live performances from local talent
Daysi and Luca, a Ventnor-based duo, will kick off the live performances at 12.30pm, showcasing their unique sound to the Reggie’s Retro crowd.

At 1.30pm, Ruby, an Isle of Wight singer who continues to gain attention for her incredible vocals, steps up to the mic. She will be joined by a special guest, further adding to the excitement of the day.

Supporting local music
Reggie’s Retro, located at 5 Pier Street, Ventnor, continues to be a hub for music lovers and collectors alike. The shop not only stocks an eclectic mix of vinyl, but also serves as a platform for local artists. Sharon Holloway’s passion for promoting homegrown talent is evident in her efforts to bring the Island’s emerging musicians to the forefront.
