Regulatory Committee To Replace Planning and Licensing Committees

From 1st June 2012, the council intend to abolish the Planning Committee and the Licensing & General Purposes Committee to create a new committee called the Regulatory Committee.

Two rails into one:The Regulatory Committee will be made up of 15 members with both licensing and planning sub-committees.

Reason for changes
Bringing the two service areas into one, would result in it sitting under one Cabinet Member’s responsibility.

As detailed in the document embedded below (see bottom of page three and appendix A), the aim of the change is to ensure that there is:

  • a similar (as far as legislation allows) experience at committees dealing with similar issues, particularly in quasi-judicial regulatory functions
  • a greater clarity of expectations and advice on the regulatory side, a streamlined process and a pool of member expertise in one area.

The report states that whoever is appointed as chair and vice chair will take on those roles on the Planning Committee and the Licensing and General Purposes Committee until 1st June.
