To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the successful launch of Black Arrow R3 rocket carrying the X3 “Prospero” Satellite into Orbit”, the Wight Aviation Museum hosted a very special celebratory event for invited guests and VIPs at Sandown Airport this morning (Thursday 28 October 2021).
To mark the special occasion, a number of invited guests, some of whom worked on the original Black Arrow Rocket Project and others who worked on the construction of the Wight Aviation Museum’s full size replica of that Black Arrow rocket, celebrated Britain’s successful entry into “the satellite space arena”.

Wight Aviation Museum volunteer, Marlene Irving, was one of the few women who worked on the original Black Arrow Rocket Programme at Highdown in the late sixties and early seventies.
The replica Prospero satellite was made by Nettlestone and Seaview Shed (NaShers) in partnership with the Wight Aviation Museum. Read more.
