Update: This event is sold out
Coming up in November, the Requestival team will be back in the UK and are planning a very special night for party lovers.
Previously scheduled for 11th October, this gig is being pushed back to 8th 15th November due to the extension of the European tour. We hear that the tour gigs have been really well received, particularly in countries such as Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary where they’ve been having a blast.
What is Silent Disco?
We’ve heard rumours about Silent Discos before, but have never been to one ourselves.
Here’s what they have to say about it.
Everybody recognises the loon that stands in the middle of the dance floor, shaking their hips and contorting their body to a beat that has no correlation what – so – ever with the music you can hear. Most people would spend the rest of their evening trying to avoid this particular type of person in a bid to avoid the impending embarrassment of being caught within close quarters of them.
However it’s taken a pair of Dutch DJ’s to realise that fun could be had in abundance as soon as you provide everyone with their own set of wireless headphones and encourage freestyle dancing to the music only you and half the other dancers can hear.
To puzzled onlookers it’s an odd sight, a tent full of people wearing wireless headphones, half of whom are grooving to Fatboy Slim’s ‘Rockefeller Skank’, while the other half are head banging to the sounds of Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Odd it may look, but curiosity would get the better of many an onlooker and it wouldn’t be long before the audience made the transition from fascinated bystanders to enthusiastic participants.
Such is the addiction of the Silent Disco that it’s making its appearance this year across the festival scene at Wychwood, Oxygen, T in the Park, Guilfest, Global Gathering, Womad, The Carling Weekend and Electric Picnic.
Being held at a secret location to be revealed nearer the time, confirmed on the playlist so far are Silent Disco, The Requestival Sound System, The DubBus Brothers (Romanian Gypsy Reggae – Live Band) and Traktor (Belgian/Bavarian /Gypsy/oompah – Live Band).
Tickets will be on sale from 1st October at Switch 45 and Yellow Brick Road in Newport.
They’ll set you back £10 in advance £or 12 on the night – but don’t forget that it’s all for a good cause. (Tickets previously purchased for the October date can be used for re-scheduled date)
Charity Efforts Pay Off
There’s more good news from the Requestival team too. After months of negotiations with a leading UK shoe manufacturer, 1,000 pairs of shoes will be donated free of charge for the disadvantaged children in Peru. Well done to all involved. It’s great to hear the hard work is paying off.
