The owner of a boat that Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat crew went to the rescue of at the weekend showed his appreciation for their services by making an immediate donation to the charity.
Whilst the independent lifeboat crew were on a training exercise on Sunday afternoon, they received a call for assistance from the Solent Coastguard asking they attend the 5.5 metre fishing vessel ‘White Rum’, which had suffered engine failure 400 yards off the Nab Tower.
Towed back to Hayling Island
The vessel was towed back to Hayling Island where, with the assistance Portsmouth Sierra was recovered out of the water onto the owner’s trailer.
Almost seven hours after they left on the training exercise, the crew had returned to the station, refuelled, washed down and re-housed the lifeboat.
