Residents in Ventnor have noticed that a series of chalk markings have been placed outside several properties in Madeira Road.
Claire Wilks got in touch with OnTheWight on Saturday to ask us to warn readers who live in the area to be on alert.
She’d reported the chalk markings to the police who said they are aware of such markings and what they can mean e.g. that they can identify properties as “vulnerable adult” or “good target” for burglars.
She was told that patrols would be requested to go to the area.
Varying symbols
Along one stretch of the road a series of different symbols can be found, some horizontal lines, others vertical lines on gate posts and others specific symbols as seen in the photo above.
Pink blue and white chalk have been used. The symbols don’t seem to match the ones used in previous national newspaper reports, but it would be interesting to know if other parts of the Island have seen the same.
We got in touch with police and are waiting to hear back to see if they have any further info.
