Thanks to local teenager, Shania Steele, for her match report from last week’s final game of the season. Ed
On a bright Thursday evening, Rew Valley hosted Shanklin for their last game of the season. A derby to finish the season was a delight to all supporters. How would they play today?
The game started well but despite some brilliant play by the Valley, Shanklin scored to give them the lead.
Tense game was evenly matched
Harry Wintersgill and Jake Ferguson played superbly in midfield creating many chances for themselves and other members of the team. The very tense game was surprisingly being evenly matched and everyone was wondering what the final score would be.
Declan Morgan Philips and Travis Steptoe played fantastically in defence. Callum Ryan scored a magnificent goal to level the scoreline 1-1 for half time.
After a very inspirational team talk, Rew Valley went back onto the pitch believing they could win the match.
Antony Kettell scored a phenomenal goal in the second minute which put us in the lead. He never disappoints!
Shanklin responded in the forty-ninth minute with a goal. Bailey Exposite pulled off some amazing saves all the way through the match which certainly kept us in the game. With Callum Steele having the ball, a certain voice called “HIT IT” from the sideline and with other supporters going “C’MON MY SON”, Callum Steele scored a superb goal which was a lob. It nearly broke the net!
Final score 3-3
Jack Croad played magnificently up front, holding the ball up and creating many chances. Unfortunately for the Valley, Shanklin scored a goal to level the score to 3-3. George Hyde played fantastically in his role in defence. The game then finished with the final score 3-3.
Well what a fantastic game from all. The last game of the season went down with success. A great effort and performance by all players. A great season for the Valley despite all of the weather the team played in including snow, wind, rain, cold and many more that everyone present needs to be credited on.
Thank you for reading my match reports and one thing I can say is……Roll on next season!
