Thanks to Wayne from this latest report from the Isle of Wight Motorcycle Club (IOWMCC). Ed
The Guy Fawkes Cup was held earlier this week at Knighton Sand Pit, by kind permission of Mr Roger Morgan.
Will West convincingly won the expert class from Simon Newnham & brother Jim (who finished second and third respectively). Will put in a stunning ride, not dropping a single mark!
Things were much closer between Simon and Jim who both finished on the same total – it was Simon that clinched second spot scoring 28 cleans from Jim with 27. Great effort by all three riders. The Intermediate class was taken by Nick Read, the clear winner from John Death (second) and Geoff Taylor in third. This was Nick’s first time out this year!
In the clubman class it was Mark Gray who took the spoils, some way ahead of fellow course-setter Stuart Gummer, with Shaun Harris in third. Once again there was a tie for the minor places – Stuart with 19 cleans and Shaun with 15.
Brian Brockwell has all but sealed the novice class Championship with a determined effort. Rival Paul Kent having to settle for second place. Relative newcomer James Craven finished in third place – this being James’s first attempt at the harder route – good effort.
Nick Symes found himself alone in the twinshock class, but nevertheless put in another solid performance for his ten Championship points.
Phil Silvester continues his recent good form to win the adult beginner class from Jon Diffey. The Club would like to welcome Jon who was taking part in his first trial – We look forward to seeing Jon at future events.
Wayne Brodie managed to win the sportsman class from Ray Power in second and John Townsend in third.
However in an unofficial vote (following photographic evidence) it was Ray that took the points for artistic impression – with his impressive leap of faith on section seven – Brilliant effort mate!
Youth classes
The Youth classes were headed up with Harvey Grieve. Harvey moved up a class today competing in the youth novice class with an inspired performance. Harvey’s score on the ‘C’ route was better than most of the adult riders! Matt Power took the youth beginner class – well done Matt. Meanwhile Harrison Crickmore, despite losing part of his exhaust system, ‘dug in’ to take the win in the E class from Alfie Haydon – good effort by both riders though.
Thanks
The Club would like to thank Roger for inviting us back to what is a great venue. A very big thank-you also to the course setters Geoff Taylor, Stuart Gummer, Mark Gray, John Coombes, James Craven & Brian Brockwell – cracking sections guys, good effort.
Next trial
The next Club trial will be held at Nodewell Farm, Totland, courtesy of the Morgan Family. The Matt Russell Memorial Cup. November 22nd at 12 noon – Ross Haydon is your course setter. I look forward to a bumper entry for this particular trial!
