Residents are being reminded of a temporary road closure between Ventnor and Shanklin from Monday 14th February so that essential tree safety work can be carried out.
The road closure will allow the National Trust to carry out work on trees which have been affected by ash dieback disease and pose a risk to public safety.
Other work to happen at same time
Island Roads has also brought forward some of its planned tree safety work so that it can be carried out under the same road closure to minimise disruption for road users.
The National Trust will be working at Luccombe Copse while Island Roads undertakes work near Smuggler’s Haven, with Island Roads’ work scheduled to last five days and the National Trust’s up to two weeks.
Road closure
The road will be closed between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday and open to traffic outside these times and at weekends.
Island Roads is scheduled to carry out further tree safety works at Cowleaze Hill from Monday 28th February with a road closure in place for up to five days.
Wallis: Getting ahead of the bird nesting season
Dave Wallis, Operations Manager at Island Roads said,
“We are grateful to the National Trust for allowing us to co-ordinate our works with theirs in order to minimise disruption. Unfortunately, a significant number of trees have been affected by ash dieback and pose a risk to public safety.
“It is important that we remove these – and any other trees – which could fall into the highway and that the work is carried out ahead of the bird nesting season.”
