Following yesterday’s unfortunate incident when a lorry got stuck underneath the bridge on Morton Common Road, Island Roads this morning say the road has now reopened.
The trailer and cab were removed from underneath the bridge late last night and OnTheWight reader Harry Finnis was on the scene to capture some photos.
This morning, Islandline trains say
A vehicle struck a bridge at Sandown yesterday, causing structural damage to the bridge. Repairs are currently ongoing and the following alterations will take place until at least
11:0013.00 today:A rail shuttle service will run between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde St Johns Road. No trains will run between Ryde St Johns Road and Shanklin.
Passengers may use Southern Vectis buses on any reasonable route.
Update 12.53
Islandline trains confirm the line has now reopened and service is running between Shanklin and Ryde without problem.

National Rail confirmed this morning that
“Replacement buses are following a similar timetable to what the trains are.”
Island Roads say
“Marshcombe Shute will also still be two-way on controlled lights until further notice.”
