Public Footpaths and Bridleways in the Downend and Mersley Downs Area will be closed to pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians in the interests of public safety during the Bestival music event from 6am on Monday 1 until approx. 4pm on Friday 12 September 2014. Public Bridleways N18/N20/N90, Arreton will be closed from near Station Road (Havenstreet) to Mersley Down Road. Public Footpaths R13, R14, R15 & Bridleways N91 / N154, Arreton will be closed from Rowlands Lane to the junction with Public Bridleways N90 / N20. Public Bridleways N19/N155 will also be closed between Bridlesford Road and Combley Farm.
In addition from approx. 6am on Thursday 4 until 10pm on Monday 8 September 2014 in the interests of road / public safety Public Footpaths A11, R16, A16, Bridleway A17 will also be closed. Pedestrians will not be permitted to walk along Mersley Down Road (from Downend Road to Rowlands Lane), Downland Way (the footpath adjacent to Mersley Down Road) and Newport Shute during the same times. BESTIVAL MUSIC EVENT 2014 PUBLIC TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
SHUTTLE event buses will operate at regular intervals from Thursday morning on 4 September until the afternoon on Monday 8 September 2014 from; Terminus Road, Cowes; Castle Street, East Cowes; Ryde Esplanade, near to Ryde Bus Station and Yarmouth Bus Station to/from the event temporary bus station situated approx 350m Brading side of the junction with Downend Road, before during and after the event. Buses will also leave from Church Litten, a two minute walk from Newport bus station, at regular intervals from Thursday morning on 4 September until the afternoon on Monday 8 September 2014.
TAXIS: The official taxi drop off and pick up point will also be within Robin Hill. This will be clearly signed on the approaches to Robin Hill Roundabout. Motorists should be aware that there will be additional traffic delays in the East Cowes, Fishbourne Lane and Yarmouth town centre areas during and after the Bestival between the morning of Thursday 4 and the evening of Monday 8 September 2014, due to high level of ferry traffic
People travelling on the Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington ferries especially after the Bestival should only arrive at the Isle of Wight ferry terminals between 30 and 60 minutes before their booked time in an effort to minimise the traffic congestion and delays that will occur after the event. People who do not have ferry bookings should not try to cross from late on the night of Sunday 10 September until late in the evening on Monday 8 September 2014 as all ferries are fully booked. ARRETON / NEWCHURCH AREA – Downend Road /Mersley Downs Road /Briddlesford Road /Long Lane/A3056 Sandown Road. There will be traffic delays on the above roads from Thursday 4 until the evening on Monday 8 September 2014 when the Bestival Event takes place at Robin Hill Park. Through traffic is strongly advised to use an alternative route if possible during this period as there will be long traffic delays at times. ROAD CLOSURES AFTER THE EVENT: To assist with traffic flow from approx. 9am until 6pm on Monday 8 September 2014 and if necessary on Thursday 4 September, Mersley Down Road will be closed from Downend Road to Rowlands Lane and Downend Road will be closed in a northbound direction from Arreton Cross to Mersley Down Road. Diversions will be signposted. Temporary 30mph speed limit and 24 hour no-waiting highway clearway order will be in operation in;
Mersley Downs Road (from Downend Road to Knighton Shute), Downend Road, Briddlesford Road (from Downend Road to Gravel Pit Lane), in Long Lane (from Newport to Robin Hill Roundabout), in A3056 Arreton Street/Sandown Road from Arreton Village to near Gore Cemetery and in Rowlands Lane from Stroud Wood Road toMerslety Downs Road. These restrictions are necessary in the interests of road safety. Motorists should be aware that NO STOPPING OR PARKING will be permitted on the roads, lay-bys and verges where the clearway restriction is in operation during the above dates. Any car that is found to be parked within the clearway restriction will be towed away. ST LAWRENCE:
A3055 Undercliff Drive will remain closed from St Catherine’s Road to Seven Sisters Road (Western Junction), between Barrington Lodge, near to the western junction with Seven Sisters Road and Mirables which is located about a mile towards Niton
Following significant ground movement in the area in early February 2014, Undercliff Drive has been physically closed between Mirables (in the west) and a point 560 metres to the West of Seven Sisters Road (in the east) for safety reasons. There is now no access for vehicles or pedestrians. The Isle of Wight Council, working with partner agencies including Island Roads and with support from the army, led an operation in February to help residents of nine properties in Undercliff Drive (in an area known as ‘Woodlands’) remove possessions from their homes after they were advised to leave for safety reasons.
A formal road and footpath closure will be in operation from Saturday 15 February for the foreseeable future. Island Roads’ work in the road has been suspended and the road will remain closed until the ground has stabilised and further monitoring can be carried out to determine its future. Bath Road. A one way restriction will be in operation from La Falaise car Park to Belgrave Road between 9am on Tuesday 29 October 2013 until approx. late in 2013. The restriction is due to the reduction in road for the protection to masonry at retaining wall R1074 above a property called Seacourt.
