Robert Thompson’s new Ryde restaurant? Licence application shows plans

Award-winning chef and restauranteur, Robert Thompson, could be on the move, with plans to open a new restaurant and cafe grill in Ryde.

There have been rumours circulating for a few weeks about where the new establishment might be located, but a premises licence application reveals that the former Michelin-starred chef plans to open the new venture at Royal Marine House in St Thomas’s Street, Ryde (also known as Biskra Beach House, the former offices of Liz Earle).

Two operations
Paperwork for the licence application states there’ll would be two operations across two floors: with the RTCafeGrill, lounge and bar area on the ground floor with steps leading out to the garden where there’ll be further seating outside when weather allows, together with Thompson’s Restaurant on the lower ground floor.

Robert opened Thompson’s in Newport in 2015. The building is up for sale with Gully Howard for offers in the region of £295,000.

Spring opening?
The third and fourth floors will continue to be used as office space. The application is seeking a licence to begin on 22nd February 2024.

As well as catering for Islanders, this new location could quickly a hotspot for day-trippers to the Island.
