This weekend the weather forecast is great where better to spend your time than at the Robin Hill Garden Show.
If you think this is something just for horticulturalists think again. There are an amazing number of activities taking place over the weekend, including the Requestival party planned for Saturday night.
VentnorBlog chum Guido Oakley will be performing a ‘carve off’ with fellow wood carvers, Paul Sivell (whose Green Man sculpture at Robin Hill is pictured), Tom Harvey, Ant Beetlestone and Erik Van Dam. It’s always brilliant to watch these wood carvers at work and TV celebrity Geoff Hughes will be judging their masterpieces at 3pm on Saturday.
Action in the arena area kicks off at 10.45am each day will have falconry displays, dog agility, morris dancing and as any Island shindig wouldn’t be complete without some magic, Island magician Randini will be performing for the nippers. If that wasn’t enough, there’ll also be maypole dancing, a gundog display and the Medina Marching band.
Dave and Vav Simon of Aldemoor Earthworks will be building a straw bale house and Alan Titchmarsh will be, as well as taking part in many other activities such as judging, unveil a giant mosaic which has been created by several art groups from around the Wight.
For bird lovers, there’ll be a IW Poultry Club show at the event and we hear that this year the judge of the show will be 16 year old Jed Dwight who will be judging the egg show, the pairs show, and managing the chicken sale.
For foodies, head over to the Tastes of the Island marquee where you’ll be able to see demonstrations by chefs from across the Wight including the Royal Hotel in Ventnor, St Helen’s Restaurant and Lygley’s in Cowes. Sunday sees demos from The Real Island Food Company and the Calbourne Classics ‘Chefs on Tour’.
