Roger Edwardson (School Boss) Replaced In Southampton Merger

VB readers may recognise the name Roger Edwardson.

Empty chairBack in August we ran an investigative article by VB reader, Retired Hack, who’d had some fun delving into the spending levels at the council.

He uncovered the employment arrangements for Head of Education, Roger Edwardson.

Like our Director of Resources, Dave Burbage, Mr Edwardson was another officer not being employed by the council, but rather being paid through a company. In this case, Roger Edwardson Education and Childrens (sic) Services Ltd.

Position no longer needed
We read in the CP today that due to the education merger with Southampton, Roger Edwardson’s contract will be terminated a year early next month.

As we reported last month, the Cabinet “formally agreed to develop a working relationship with Southampton for school improvement and related educational functions covering the 2011/12 school year.”

Lack of consultation?
According to the CP, David Porter of the NASUWT, claims no consultation on the merger took place and that officers from Southampton would not be able to support schools in the same way as officers with local knowledge.

As you may remember, Retired Hack’s article revealed the possibility that Roger Edwardson commutes to the Island from Newcastle. The council stated that, “He is also required to work on the Island during the working week.”

Hmm, rather than working at the weekend you mean?
