Two friends and team members of The Royal Hotel, Ventnor, have each completed an incredible individual challenge in the space of four days.
Jo Knowles completed the 12-day return trek to Everest Base Camp at 5,364m high (on Thursday 30th March). The height of Everest Base Camp is equivalent to over 12 Empire State Buildings.
Just three days later, Hannah Steptoe completed her first Marathon in Brighton (on Sunday 2nd April), running for ‘Ambitious about Autism’ and completed the 26.2 mile run in a sub-five-hour time (4:44).
Steptoe: A charity close to my heart
Hannah has said,
“My road to the 26.2 miles has been a personal challenge, but also the chance to raise money and awareness of a charity that has recently become close to my heart.
“Knowing the money raised so far and my family waiting at the end, carried me to the finish line.”
Knowles: My last big mountain to conquer
Jo said,
“Having previously completed the Inca Trail and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, this was my last big mountain to conquer and to tick off my bucket list, so I am ecstatic to have experienced these incredible adventures.”
These two superwomen trained for five months side-by-side, in the gym, at park runs, on the roads and coast-to-coast Island walks, best preparing them to achieve their individual goals.
“Can achieve anything in life”
The fairy-tale at the end of the story and unbeknown to Hannah, Jo decided to inscribe the name of Hannah’s son into the rock at Everest Base Camp so that he now faces the highest point in the world and as he grows up, he knows that he can achieve anything in life.
Hannah has already far exceeded her original fundraising target of £200, having so far raised £705. Now Jo and Hannah’s fellow colleagues at The Royal, want to help her get this target to £1,000.
