Tucked away on page 63 (where you can often find some of the most interesting news) of this week’s Isle of Wight County Press, reporter Richard Wright reveals the owner of Ryde’s Royal York Hotel has been given an extension on when work needs to start by.
One of the 15 conditions imposed when planning permission was granted for the hotel development in April 2014 was that work must start within 12 months.
The lack of movement on the once-grand, now-decaying art-deco hotel in George Street, had sparked concern from local residents and councillors.
Extension permitted
However, a spokesperson from the council has advised that although the original planning permission was granted in April 2014, revisions were sought which weren’t agreed until December 2014.
This means the developer now has until December 2015 to start work.
If he doesn’t, the permission will lapse.
