Congratulations to the twelve supporters of St Catherine’s School in Ventnor who took part in the London 10K last Sunday.
Taking part with 24,988 other runners the St Catherine’s team was made up of staff members, family of St Catherine’s children and young people and a number of other friends and supporters.
The runners were Grenville Shipley, Gloria Grant, Vanda Russell, Becky Grant, Sarah Ellis, Cress de la Fosse, Gae de la Fosse, Mark Mann, Jacqui Milner, Michelle Palmer, Georgina Randall and Nigel Rawlence.
The race started at Hyde Park Corner wound its way round many famous landmarks to finish at Westminster. The twelve runners all completed the run in quick times.
As Gloria Grant explained “It was an amazing achievement to cross the finishing line, I was really proud to represent St Catherine’s and found the race quite emotional. We have put in lots of early morning training sessions and I will definitely run again next year.”
Vanda Russell went on to explain “It was fantastic to be running with so many other people. The atmosphere was brilliant with supporters lining the route and cheering us on.”
Aimee Steward, Development Officer explained, “This is the second year we have entered a St Catherine’s team in the London 10K, last year we had six runners, so the team has doubled in size. The response has been so overwhelming that we plan to register an even larger team next year. All sponsorship raised directly supports children and young people with communication impairments to fulfil their potential through our work at St Catherine’s centre and our outreach work. We cannot thank our runners enough. They were fabulous!”
