Sarah Redrup from Grace’s Bakery and Isle of Wight councillor for Wootton Bridge, and Rob Madigan from the Star Coffee and Ale house put on a festive pub quiz last Wednesday to raise money for a local charity who have been forced to vacate their building after Simeon Rec flooded in October.
With generous raffle prizes from Ryde Businesses, they managed to raise £350 in one evening. The quiz teams were treated to mulled wine, free mince pies and a special “Where’s Blobby” picture round.
This was added to the more than £1,000 raised through the GoFundMe campaign.
Devastating flooding
In the early hours of Wednesday 25th October, severe flooding devastated the entire downstairs floor of Tidal Family Support in Rink Road, Ryde.
Dirty water filled the offices, playrooms, sensory rooms and more. The water soaked through toys, books, paperwork, furniture and carpets.
Community based child-focused Charity
Tidal Family Support is a community based, not for profit, child-focused Charity that works with families who are directly impacted by separation or divorce.
Tidal’s mission reflects their shared belief that with the right advice and support, separating parents can move on from the trauma of their relationship breakdown. They enable families to develop their co-parenting skills, in which their children can thrive and be happy.
Small charity, big impact
Tidal is a small charity with a small amount of staff, but they have a huge impact. They provide a safe space for parents and children to get the right support, including free counselling.
They are also the only enhanced national-accredited child contact centre on the Isle of Wight. Without this vital enhanced accredited centre, families would have to travel to Portsmouth or Southampton.
Lots of amazing Ryde Businesses contributed prizes to the raffle: Sip & Smoke, Melt Larder, Buds and Blooms Ryde, The Wonky Goat, Alamo Bar and Grill, Jazzle Craft (local artist), Pickle and Dill, Beautique, Quivers, Hovertravel, Isle of Wool, Liz Earle, Graces Bakery and Wightlink.
Redrup: It’s amazing what our community can achieve when we work together
Councillor Sarah Redrup said,
“A lot of people were affected by the flooding in October and I wanted to do something to help. Rob at the Star Coffee and Ale House was immediately on board so we decided to put on a festive pub quiz.
“The place was packed and we managed to raise £350 in one night bringing the grand total to £1,400 raised so far. I want to send a special shout out to the Ryde businesses that generously gave a prize to the raffle and everyone who came along on the night.
“It’s amazing what our community can achieve when we work together.”
