Showing their dedication, Ryde Inshore Rescue carry out a ‘shout’ even while at a fund-raising social event – Ed.
Members of the public saw a strange site in Appley on Saturday evening.
Ryde Inshore Rescue were attending an “Ascot” style charity fund-raising event held at the Solent Inn in Ryde, when the crew were paged by Solent coastguard.
They immediately left the function and proceeded to the Lifeboat station. Men dressed in tuxedo, and the ladies dressed in true “Ladies day” Ascot style were seen running into the station to respond to a distress call.
Boat run aground
A small motor boat had run aground on Ryde sands, and was not able to restart their engine. The crew of Ryde Rescue 1 were soon on scene, and took the boat under tow to deeper water.
Due to the low tide, and the fact that 2 of the 4 people on board were extremely cold, a decision was made to secure the motor boat to a swinging mooring off Seaview, then return to the lifeboat station, where paramedics were waiting to check the casualties over.
Although they were extremely cold, they were allowed to return to their home town of East Cowes.
The crew then quickly washed the boat down, prepared it for operational duties, then dressed back up in their “evening dress” in order to return to the Solent Inn where £141 was raised for the local Lifeboat station.
