Ryde Inshore Rescue were paged at 1544 this afternoon to a person in the water off of Ryde Sands.
Several other units including the police and coastguard helicopter were also tasked too.
The Ryde Rescue launch vehicle and lifeboat made their way to the casualty’s location. Thankfully the person, who from the shore looked like he was up to his waist in water, was actually walking on the Outer Sandbank and was not in any danger.
“Ryde is known for it’s large area of sand banks and many people go walking out on these throughout the year. Whilst this walker was acting responsibly and following the tide out we urge anyone who wishes to do the same to ensure they are aware of the state of tide before they start walking and have a way to summon assistance should it be needed as it is a long walk back again!”
