Ryde man admitted breaking into flat and assaulting the occupant

A man is due to be sentenced after admitting aggravated burglary and possession of a knife.

At around 6.15pm on Saturday 13th August, police were called to an incident in Melville Street in Ryde, where 59-year-old Andrew Saurin was observed standing in the street with a knife whilst shouting threats towards someone in a nearby flat.

Assaulted occupant
During the incident, Saurin broke into the flat and assaulted the occupant inside.

Police attended and arrested Saurin. He was subsequently charged with aggravated burglary and possession of a knife in a public place.

Admitted offences
Saurin, of Melville Street in Ryde, admitted both offences when he appeared at Newport Crown Court today (26th September), and was remanded in custody for sentencing on 29th November.
