A man has been taken into custody after cocaine packages washed ashore were found tampered with.
This incident followed the discovery of packages and holdalls brimming with the drug on England’s south coast since 2nd October.
Recent discoveries on Isle of Wight
On Saturday 7th October, packages were located on Compton beach. These were subsequently reported to the authorities.
In connection with this, a 57-year-old man from Ryde was taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the drug supply chain.
He has since been released on bail and is due to report back on 15th January.
At the time police were keen to locate a member of the litter picking group, a man in his 60s, who was involved in the Planet Aware nurdle hunt.
Previous incidents and arrests
In a separate case, police confirmed that a 78-year-old man from Ventnor had been taken into custody after a package emerged between Atherfield Point and Chine on 7th October.
However, the man who was initially arrested on the grounds of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, has been released. No further action will be taken against him.
The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious findings.
