The snarl up of traffic in Ryde this morning was mostly down to the emergency closure of Queens Road.
Island Roads had been carrying out overnight work for the last few days, but have now revealed the road had to remain closed this morning due to the discovery of ‘a void in the carriageway’.
The PFI contractor say the road could be closed “for a maximum period of twenty-one days or until works to resolve void are completed, whichever is sooner”.
Update 4.35pm
A spokesperson for Island Roads said,
We are excavating and filling the void in Queens Road, Ryde. We hope this will be done in time to resume the resurfacing work overnight. We anticipate the road will be re-opened to traffic at 6am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.
Update 9.30am 18th May
Work to repair the void and continue resurfacing has been completed and the road re-opened.
