According to a report on Delegated Decisions being taken next week at the Isle of Wight Council, it looks as though like Ryde is about to get a boost of nearly £200,000 to spend on enhancement of the town centre.
When Tesco got approval to build the mammoth store on Brading Road, part of the Section 106 Agreement stated that Tesco had to put cash back into the development of Ryde shopping area.
The figure of £190,000 will be used in association with the Ryde Townscape Heritage Initiative to improve the public areas of Ryde Town Centre and encourage shoppers to the area.
No To Deferred Expenditure
The Ryde Town Council had requested last year that expenditure of these funds is put on hold until they have completed the Town Plan, but according to the paperwork, the money must start to be spent from the date of the delegated decision.
The reason for this decision was down to the fact that the monies have to be spent within an alloted time frame and that the period of time within which the Town Plan could be produced was ‘uncertain’.
No Monies For Buildings Though
Before readers start to wonder about how much £200k could do for the likes of Ryde Theatre, there is a stipulation that it cannot be used for maintenance of buildings.
