Colleagues and customers from Sainsbury’s Newport and Sandown have raised £11,036.05 to support their Local Charity of the Year Partner Ability Dogs 4 Young People.

Part of this money is a donation from Sainsbury’s carrier bag sales following on from the fairly recent change in legislation.

In the photo above, and making her debut appearance, is ‘Honey Nectar’ – Ability Dogs 4 Young People’s newest trainee puppy. She has been named and supported by colleagues from Sainsbury’s.

A year of support
The stores have supported the charity since May 2015 and previously raised funds through collection days, quiz and bingo nights, colleague sponsored silence, sponsored walk plus a Christmas and Easter competition for customers.

The money raised will be put towards Honey’s Ability Dog training.

Touched by the generosity
Carol Court, Ability Dogs 4 Young People’s Founder and CEO said:

“We’re very touched by the generosity of Sainsbury’s Newport Store and Sandown Local colleagues and customers. We’ve really enjoyed working with them and the money raised has really made a difference.

“It will cover the cost of Honey’s training so she can go on to help another disabled young person on the Isle of Wight.”

Store Manager, Paul Dyer added:

“It’s been fantastic to see the way everyone has pulled together since we started working with Ability Dogs 4 Young People.

“We’ve enjoyed coming up with ways to support and volunteer for this very worthy cause and it’s great to think that we’re making a positive difference to so many people.”
