Young Bonchurch pianist and past WWArts Bursary award-winner, Sally Halsey, is organising a cello and piano recital in aid of the Lottie Rann Trust on Sunday 28th April at 3pm.
Sally will be joined by precociously talented cellist Megan Rolf, 16, in St. Catherine’s Church, Ventnor, and they will perform in advance of summer concerts in Pisa, Italy, St. Chad’s, Shrewsbury and Lea Barn, Maidenhead. It promises to be a treat not to be missed and a chance to help Lottie, 11, who is paralysed by contracting meningitis for a second time, return home to live with her family in Niton.
Connection with the Rann family
Sally, who is a past pupil of Niton Primary School and Medina High School, and has known Lottie and her family for many years, now studies piano and harpsichord at Trinity Music College in Greenwich. Sally has also worked with Jesse Rann, (Lottie’s cousin, who is coordinating fundraising) producing children’s musical productions on the Island.
Megan, who comes from Aberdeen, has been a frequent visitor to the Island over the past few years, where she has lessons with James Halsey. She has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland for several years, and this year has been appointed principal cellist of the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra. She attends the Royal College of music junior department every Saturday, where she is part of a piano trio, symphony orchestra and a string quartet. Megan achieved her cello grade 8 distinction after only 3 years of playing the cello when she was 13. In 2011 Megan won the Rotary Young Musician of the Year for Scotland and north east England. She will be auditioning for music conservatoires this autumn.
