Sandown Bay Academy students celebrate GCSE results

This report on GCSE Results in from Sandown Bay Academy. Ed

Examination results are as much to do with individuals as they are headline figures and at Sandown Bay Academy there is much to be proud of this year.

Lots of Academy students celebrated great GCSE results; 102 achieved five or more passes at A*-C with 23 achieving five or more passes at A*-A. There were particularly jubilant smiles on the faces of 13 students who were celebrating eight passes at these high grades.

These students include Hannah Mudge who gained nine A* grades, Wilney Tatter-Smith who got six A* grades and four A grades, Josh Perfect achieved six A* grades and six A grades, Isabella Barclay gained five A* grades, Dimarzio Rogers got three A* grades and five A grades, Aiden Pierce got one A* and nine A grades, Alice Lyons achieved five A* grades and four A grades and Jade Redford got ten A grades.

Overall the percentage of A* grades increased by 20% with 14 of those passes coming in Mathematics. High grades were also sustained in Physics and Chemistry.

Other successes include more than doubling the number of students achieving the English Baccalaureate (Ebacc) and tremendous improvements in Modern Foreign Languages. Academy students appear to have made significantly more progress in English than the provisional national figure. The traditionally strong Performing Arts subjects have maintained their record of success. We recognise that this is a result of the hard work of both students and staff.

There remains much further work to be done in analysing results in order to assess the real impact of changes to examinations on the overall results of the academy. This will then enable us to plan our support for our new Year 11 and continue to lay the foundations for the future success of our younger year groups.
